Though the last few winters have been mild as far as Wyoming winters go, this year seems to be full steam ahead with the snow. And though we’re thankful to have it and know it will make our valley greener in the summer, it sure can be a lot of work to get it off our roads, driveways, and property. That’s where The Plow Guy comes in.

John—The Plow Guy—has been plowing snow professionally for five years, but this is the first year he has gone out on his own to start The Plow Guy (TPG, LLC)—a company dedicated to clearing snow so you can focus on the rest of your to-do list. John’s website (307PlowGuy.com) states: “The Plow Guy stays up through the wee hours of the night tracking the weather and snowfall so you can rest easy. Whether your destination is for work or for pleasure, we plow the way so you don’t have to.”

John began plowing on a four-wheeler. He says, “That’s kind of what got me hooked on plowing snow because it was just a blast on this four-wheeler that I had. It really just started as a hobby . . . but it’s really a lot of fun. . . . There’s instant gratification in terms of what you’re doing and getting handled and it’s just nice to get that good clean scrape.”

Now, John uses two primary trucks to plow. He says, “I have a 2003 Chevy with a Boss V-plow, and then I have a 2001 GMC with a SnowDogg plow.” He also adds, “And then I have a Hail Mary third plow truck that’s very old, and it’s just a straight blade. But it’s kind of a ‘if everything else breaks’ kind of thing.”

To get started working with The Plow Guy, you can text him at (307) 368-0467. John will come out to your property and look over the area you want plowed. He takes into account the square footage; hazardous areas, such as ditches and banks; the shape, slope, and curvature of the area; and how far he’ll have to push the snow. Then, for a price estimate, John says, “I’ll measure and then I’ll estimate my time, and then use those as the main determining factors.”

For billing, The Plow Guy has three options. First, he’ll bill you per push. The second, he explains, “I’ll give you 12 pushes at a discounted rate, and then it defaults to the per push rate.” His third and most popular billing option is the “Pay per Season.” You pay one time, upfront, for all season long. The season lasts from the first snowfall until May 1. But John adds the caveat, “I’m not going to leave my clients hanging if we get a crazy freak storm in July obviously.”

Each signed contract will also include a trigger. This trigger would be an agreed upon amount of snowfall that tells John when to come plow. For example, most residential properties have a three-inch trigger. So if the snowstorm leaves three inches or more of snow, you’ll know John will be there bright and early to clear it out of your way.

To learn more about The Plow Guy, follow him on Instagram and Twitter (@307plowguy) or Facebook (The Plow Guy.) “I just get a kick out of [plowing],” says John. “I’ve always been a firm believer in ‘if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.’ . . . I like helping people and making sure they’re not snowed in.”

• The Plow Guy gets up early, so you don’t have to.
