Having worked on the Las Vegas strip as a professional pastry chef for years, she was ready for a different atmosphere. \u201cI was working 60-hour workweeks,\u201d says Larkin. \u201cAfter COVID\u2014it shut down literally the whole entire strip\u2014my fiance\u0301 and I kind of looked at each other and wanted a different change of life, different pace.\u201d Larkin and her fiance\u0301, Matt, certainly found a contrasting way of life when they moved to Star Valley. The bustling sun- beaten streets were replaced with mellow two-lanes and falling snowflakes. The pair worked as chefs at the Snake River Sporting Club in Jackson, and now, Larkin works from home with her business Treats by Ty.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72592\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72592\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-72592\" src=\"https:\/\/svinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screen-Shot-2023-03-03-at-12.13.13-PM-216x300.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/svinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screen-Shot-2023-03-03-at-12.13.13-PM-216x300.png 216w, https:\/\/svinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screen-Shot-2023-03-03-at-12.13.13-PM-346x480.png 346w, https:\/\/svinews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screen-Shot-2023-03-03-at-12.13.13-PM.png 582w\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72592\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ty Larkin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m actually doing a cake right now,\u201d says Larkin, \u201cwhich is all cowgirl-themed, which is really fun! It\u2019s for a bridal shower, and I just think that\u2019s so unique. It fits the Valley, cause in Las Vegas, I would have never made a cowgirl-themed bridal shower cake. But for here in the Valley, it totally makes sense. It\u2019s my first time doing this design, so I\u2019m learning and having fun at the same time and seeing what my community wants, seeing their cake styles compared to what I was doing in Las Vegas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though Larkin finds herself in a new area with different client needs, she says, \u201cI want to challenge myself by starting from the ground up, doing something totally new with the new clientele, the new demand. I find it just extremely humbling and totally different from Las Vegas clients\u2014but it\u2019s more rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having graduated from culinary school and taking part in opening fine dining restaurants, Larkin feels comfortable making just about any dessert. \u201cAlthough, I do cakes because it\u2019s extremely fun, my passion is baking and pastry. So I love doing pa\u0302te a\u0300 choux, croquembouches, high-end tarts. I also was a chocolatier for a little while. I just love doing and creating fun delicious desserts, whether that\u2019s a birthday cake for your child or if it\u2019s going to be an extravagant dessert platter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To see examples of Larkin\u2019s baked goods, follow her on Instagram (@treatsbyty). \u201cI\u2019m willing to work with my clients,\u201d says Larkin. \u201cIf they\u2019re vegan or gluten-free, I have that experience. . . . If you tell me you\u2019re doing your wedding but you don\u2019t want a wedding cake you want a dessert bar, we could totally sketch up some ideas and talk about what kind of desserts you like. . . . Definitely whatever the customer wants, we can make.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been so fun to have my customers\u00a0pick out and show me pictures [of desserts they want],\u201d adds Larkin. \u201cThey\u2019re like, \u2018Have you done this before?\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018No, but I\u2019m comfortable with it and let\u2019s do it together.\u2019 So it\u2019s been a learning curve the last year and a half for sure but in a good way. I\u2019m learning; I\u2019m just advancing my skills.
