New from Research & Planning: August Trends, Growing and Declining Industries Report, and More<\/h1>\n

The Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services has updated its website with the August issue of\u00a0Wyoming\u00a0Labor\u00a0Force\u00a0Trends<\/em>, the July 2024 Unemployment Insurance claims report, a quarterly growing and declining industries report, monthly and quarterly employment data, and more.<\/p>\n

Wyoming Unemployment Unchanged at 2.9% in July 2024<\/h1>\n

The Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services reported the state\u2019s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 2.9% from June to July. Wyoming\u2019s unemploy\u00adment rate has remained low while the U.S. unemployment rate has increased in each of the past three months, rising from 3.8% in March to 4.3% in July.<\/p>\n

Current Employment Statistics (CES) estimates show that total nonfarm employment in Wyoming (not seasonally adjusted and measured by place of work) rose from 297,500 in July 2023 to 298,700 in July 2024, an increase of 1,200 jobs (0.4%).<\/p>\n

Growing and Declining Industries, 2024Q1<\/h1>\n

Wyoming had four growing industries in 2024Q1, down from five growing industries last quarter. Wyoming’s four growing industries in 2024Q1 accounted for 4.9% of all industries and 3.9% of the state’s total employment. Growing industries included heavy & civil engineering construction, administration of economic programs, membership associations & organizations, and electrical equipment & appliance manufacturing.<\/p>\n

There were also four declining industries in 2024Q1, one less than last quarter. Declining industries made up 4.9% of all industries and 0.7% of total employment. The greatest decline was seen in furniture, home furnishings, electronics, & appliance retailers.<\/p>\n

Wyoming Employment and Payroll: Job Growth Continues in First Quarter 2024<\/h1>\n

From first quarter 2023 to first quarter 2024, total employment in the state rose by 3,429 jobs (1.3%) and total payroll increased by $163.8 million (4.1%). Employment rose in 16 counties and fell in seven counties. Total payroll increased in 20 counties and decreased in three counties.<\/p>\n
