Market Monday is here! Every Monday from 4-7 p.m. on the grass south of the Afton Civic Center, you’re invited to come enjoy food, music, activities for kids, and discover some amazing local homemakers.
Market Monday first began about four years ago. Dan and Kim Dockstader thought it would be nice to have a place where people could showcase their businesses who didn’t have a storefront or another way to market their business.
Christa Tidwell, one of the local vendors–Lava by Design–at Market Monday, volunteered to help manage the farmer’s market, by inviting vendors to come and making it an event the whole family would enjoy.
Tidwell said there’s a huge variety of vendors. You can see anything from seasoned professionals with homemade jams, salsas, and honey to tupperware and leather products to themed snacks sold by the cutest five-year-olds.
“We’re hoping Market Monday gives families something to do in the summertime when the kids are out of school,” Tidwell said. “We want this to become the “thing” to do on Monday nights in the summer, and it’s free to attend.”
Tidwell said there’s still room available for more vendors. There is a simple application process to become a vendor, and there is no fee to have a spot at the market.
“We have lots of local talented craftsmen and artists and we encourage them to come out and participate,” Tidwell said. “Even home gardeners who have an abundance of produce should come and sell it at Market Monday.”
Tidwell said one of her favorite things about Market Monday is interacting with other people.
“Market Monday gives me a chance to talk with people in the community, otherwise I would just stay home,” she said.
Some of the kid-friendly activities include a free bouncy house provided by the National Guard, exploring a police car provided by the Afton Police Department, and music to enjoy throughout the evening.
